Toshiba Satellite U945

The reliable Satellite series just got even better. The Toshiba Satellite U945 hopes to be an ultrabook for the new generations, while managing to be affordable. The body is made from plastic and weighs around four pounds and is 0.78 inches. While that may not be a super ultrabook, again, affordability is the central theme here.

 It features a 14 - inch screen, and comes with the latest Intel Ivy Bridge processor (i3 or i5). Other features include Windows 8 as the installed operating system.

 Screen resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels, which isn't bad. Storage option comes with a hybrid drive (500 GB HD and 32 GB SSD). RAM isn't specified, but since this is a budget ultrabook, it could be 4 or 6 GB. There are also HDMI, Ethernet, and USB ports.

HP Envy Spectre XT

 The glamorous Spectre ultrabook of HP is getting a new sibling. The Spectre 14 is a glass covered laptop that features great hardware and design. The XT hopes to continue that tradition, only without the glass.

This laptop looks to be a good winner for HP. It features a 15 - inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. That should be enough to turn the audience to HP's favor. As mentioned at the beginning, this laptop features a touchscreen display to work with the upcoming Windows 8.

 The laptop looks to be very portable. It's only 0.7 inches thick and it weighs 4.8 pounds (it does happen to have a 15 - inch screen). Other features include a backlit keyboard. Expect to see Beats Audio and Ivy Bridge processors in this machine.

 For those who will be purchasing the laptop, a program named SmartFriend Setup and SmartFriend Complete will be installed free for 90 days. It is a service where you can immediately ask things about your laptop and how it works, without having to call tech support.

HP Envy x2

   HP has also unveiled a new kind of ultrabook/tablet hybrid - it is actually both! Aside from being a laptop with a touchscreen, it can also be a tablet. Just remove the screen and that's basically it. 

 This laptop features an 11.6 - inch screen that will feel slightly bigger but more welcome than 10 -inch tablets. It features a 1366 x 768 resolution and is powered by Intel's Atom processor, which you find in many netbooks. 

There's 64 GB of storage, Windows 8, HDMI, SD slot and an 8 MP camera.

Conclusion

 Official prices and release dates aren't set, but seeing they come with Windows 8, it'll likely come in November or December. Expect to see wonderful reviews about these new devices, especially Microsoft's new software.
